MtG: SpellWars ExpansionGaming Workshop


This imaginary expansion to Magic: The Gathering was inspired by Jolly Games' Wiz War, with some tips of the pointy hat to other classic "wizards in a dungeon" shticks. There are even some graphics of the cards, made with plagiarized artwork and some long obsolete software for making cards called Dante's Card Maker.

Lands

Rare

Dimensional Nexus T: Take control of target land. Target land returns to original controller in whatever state it is in when Dimensional Nexus untaps.

Uncommon

Maze of Tricks T: Target an attacking creature that is not blocked. Do this only after blocks are declared. Flip a coin, opponent calls it. If coin ends up in your favor, targetted creature takes 3 damage.

Pit T: Target an attacking creature that is not blocked. Do this only after blocks are declared. Flip a coin, opponent calls it. If coin ends up in your favor, targetted creature deals no damage and may not untap as normal on controller's next turn.

Treasure Chamber T: Draw 1; Sacrifice to draw two cards.

Underground Spring T: Draw l; Sacrifice to gain two life.

 

Artifacts

Rare

BloodStone 1 R,T: Until end of turn, any damage you do with an Enchantment, Sorcery, or Instant is increased by 1.

BrightStone 1 W,T: Any creatures which attack you this turn and are not blocked gain -1/0.

DarkStone 1 B,T: Any creature which damages you in combat this turn takes 1 point of damage.

LifeStone 1 G,T: The first 3 damage done to you this turn is prevented.

PowerStone 1 U,T: Draw UU or UUU.

Uncommon

Dancing Dagger 2 (Artifact Creature) (2/1) Flying. 2: Prevent 1 point of damage to Dancing Dagger.

Master Thief's Kit 3 2: Tap target wall.

Portable Hut 3 T:You may not be the target of spells or effects until your next upkeep, nor may you attack or cast spells. If Portable Hut is destroyed, you lose half your life.

Safe 3 1,T: Target artifact you control is tapped, and may not be the target of spells or effects, or be untapped, until Safe is untapped. You may choose not to untap Safe during your untap phase. If another player takes control of Safe, he also takes control of target artifact.

Wand of Bamphing 5 3,T: Does 2 damage to an attacking or blocking creature; 3,T: Does 5 damage to any wall.

Wand of Zotting 4 3,T: Tap a creature or remove a creature from combat.

WizardBlade 4 2,T: Any creatures which block target creature get 0/-1. If target creature is destroyed this turn, WizardBlade is buried.

 

Black

Rare

Terminal Illness 2BBB (Enchantment) Pay BB each upkeep or discard. Choose target player when this spell is cast. That player takes one damage on his upkeep as long as Terminal Illness remains in play.

Uncommon

Death Ray XXBB (Sorcery) Deal X damage to target creature or player.

Halloween Mask 2B (Enchant Creature) Creatures that block enchanted creature are tapped, neither deal nor receive damage in combat, and may not untap as normal on their controller's next untap phase.

Ooze 1BB (Summon Ooze) (1/3) Any creature that blocks or is blocked by Ooze takes 2 damage as soon as the block is declared. If Ooze attacks, it does not untap as normal on controller's next turn.

Wraith 3B (Summon Wraith) (2/2) Flying. Any creature that blocks or is blocked by Wraith takes 1 damage as soon as the block is declared.

Common

Dust Cloud B (Instant) Target attacking creature, any creatures banding with it, and its blockers, are all tapped and deal no damage and may not untap as normal next turn. If this card is played before blocks are declared, any creatures which do block target this turn are immediately tapped, deal no damage and may not untap as normal next turn.

Evil Dead 2B (Summon Dead) (3/2) Evil Dead must attack each turn.

Lab Assistant 0 (Summon Assistant) (0/1) Counts as a black creature. Sacrifice Lab Assistant to regenerate target artifact.

Lock in Place XXBB (Enchant Creature) Put X counters on Lock in Place. Remove a counter on your upkeep. When all counters are gone, discard Lock in Place. As long as Lock in Place remains on target non-wall creature, it may not attack or block.

 

Blue

Rare

SpellTap UUUU (Enchantment) UU: Until end of turn, you may use target enchantment an opponent controls as if it were your own. Your opponent may also use it during this time. You may not change the target of an enchantment that has a target.

Uncommon

Dematerialization U (Instant) If target attacking creature is blocked only by walls, the attacking creature is no longer blocked. Play after blocks are declared but before damage is dealt.

Mage's Block UU (Instant) Target player may not cast instants or interrupts for the rest of the turn.

Wall of Illusion U (Summon Wall) (0/10) Flying. Spend UU on upkeep or discard. As soon as any spell or effect targets Wall of Illusion, Wall of Illusion is buried.

Teleport XUUU (Sorcery) Target creature with toughness X may not be blocked this turn.

Common

Gnomish Trickster 0 (Summon Gnome) (0/1) UU: Counts as a blue creature. All damage done to Gnomish Trickster from combat is reduced to zero.

Hypnotic Pattern XUU (Enchant Creature) Tap target non-wall creature and put X counters on Hypnotic Pattern. Remove a counter on your upkeep. When all counters are gone, discard Hypnotic Pattern. Until counters or enchantment are gone, target creature may not untap for any reason.

Illusory Treasure UU (Enchantment) Pay U on upkeep or discard. After an opponent declares an attack on you, you may immediately choose an attacking creature and remove it from combat. You may only choose a creature with a converted casting cost of 5 or less.

Water Weird 2UU (Summon Elemental) (4/3) Bury if you do not control any islands.

 

Green

Rare

Purple Worm 5GGG (Summon Worm) (5/5) G: If attacking, deal 2 damage to target blocking creature. If being attacked, deal 3 damage to target attacking creature. Use this ability only once a turn.

Uncommon

Big Old Tree 3G (Summon Wall) (0/5) Put a counter on Big Old Tree on each upkeep. Remove three counters to destroy target wall.

Elf Thief 3G (Summon Thief) (2/3) Tap Elf Thief to control target artifact. The artifact remains in your control for as long as Elf Thief is tapped. You may choose not to untap Elf Thief on your untap phase. If Elf Thief is untapped or leaves play, you lose control of artifact.

Enlargement GG (Enchantment). If you have Reduction in play, bury it as soon as Enlargement is cast. While Enlargement is in play, all combat damage to you from creatures with a power less than 3 is prevented.

Reduction GG (Enchantment). If you have Enlargement in play, bury it as soon as Reduction is cast. While Reduction is in play, all combat damage to you from creatures with a toughness greater than 3 is prevented.

Common

Adventuring Party 0 (Summon Party) (2/2) Counts as a green creature. When adventuring party comes into play, discard a card.

Thornbush 1G (Summon Wall) (2/3)

Slime G (Instant) Target attacking creature takes 2 damage.

Wall of Gelatin 2G (Summon Wall) (1/6)

 

Red

Spontaneous Combustion RRR (Instant) Bury target creature.

Uncommon

Block of Stone 3R (Summon Wall) (0/9) May block up to two creatures at once.

Fire Fan XXR (Instant) Does X damage divided any way among attacking creatures.

Negation XR (Sorcery) Destroy target enchantment or artifact with X casting cost.

Rift 2RR (Sorcery) Return two of target opponent's lands to the top of his deck.

Common

Fire Imp 2R (Summon Imp) (1/2) Flying. Any creature that blocks or is blocked by Fire Imp takes 1 damage as soon as the block is declared. Gains +1/+0 if not blocked.

Hideous Monster 2R (Summon Monster) (4/3) If you do not attack with Hideous Monster, it does you 2 damage.

Orcish Exiles 1R (Summon Orcs) (3/3) Discard a card when Orcish Exiles enter play. When Orcish Exiles attack, defending player may discard a card to untap Orcish Exiles and remove them from combat.

Wandering Monster 0 (Summon Monster) (1/1) Counts as a red creature.

 

White

Rare

Lifepact WWWW (Sorcery) Pick a target player. Add your life totals; then each of your life totals is set to half of the sum, rounded down.

Uncommon

Dispel Magic 3WWW (Sorcery) Bury target permanent.

Magic Shield WW (Instant) All damage done to you from one source is reduced to zero.

Monks of Mentar 2WW (Summon Monks) (3/2) Flying, First Strike

Sanctuary 2WW (Enchantment) Cumulative upkeep: 1W. As long as you control Sanctuary, you take no damage in combat.

Common

Castle Guards 3W (Summon Guards) (2/3) Banding

Crone 0 (Summon Crone) (0/1) Counts as a white creature. Creatures blocking or blocked by Crone neither deal nor receive damage in combat.

Peace Treaty 2W (Enchantment) Pay W on your upkeep or Peace Treaty is discarded. Target player may not attack you, nor may you attack him. Target player may sacrifice a creature at any time to bury Peace Treaty.

Wall of Tacks W (Summon Wall) (1/1) If Wall of Tacks and one or more other walls join to block an attacker and no other creatures besides walls block that attacker, Wall of Tacks gains banding until end of turn.
