Generations and media. Jim Rutenberg at the New York Times writes about the twilight of an old generation of news reporters. The head anchors of the three old-line broadcast networks - Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, and Tom Brokaw - are all members of the Silent generation. Their glory days were during the 1980s, but ever since CNN's dominance during Gulf War I, they have been eclipsed by cable news.

And now, in the 21st century, they are made even less relevant by the veritable torrent of insightful commentary and news analysis coming out of the blogosphere. As this Yahoo! News story indicates, a new kind of media has come of age. Boomers and Gen-Xers have supplanted the old opinion elites with the help of exciting new information technologies.

Not that I have any biases or anything...
